From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Eckhart Tolle, is a contemporary spiritual teacher and writer on spirituality.Eckhart Tolle non-fiction bestseller, Eckhart Tolle - The Power of Now, describes his experience of enlightenment at the age of 29 after suffering long periods of depression, dissolving his old identity and radically changing the course of his life.

This book, Echkart Tolle - The Power of Now emphasizes the importance of being aware of the present moment as a way of negating past and future. In Eckhart Tolle view, the present is the gateway to a heightened sense of peace and aliveness.

“Being in the now” also brings about an awareness that is beyond the mind. This awareness helps in transcending “the pain-body” that is created by the identification of the mind and ego with the body.

Eckhart Tolle later book, A New Earth further explores the structure of the human ego and how this acts to distract people from their present experience of the world. Eckhart Tolle other works include Stillness Speaks.

The aim of Eckhart Tolle teachings is the transformation of individual and collective human consciousness–a global spiritual awakening.Core teachings that appear to arise from his works are:

  • You are not your thoughts.
  • Only the present moment exists.
  • Accept the present moment.
  • Observe the pain-body.

Eckhart Tolle is not aligned with any particular religion or tradition.

Past or Future

Watching a rerun of "What Not to Wear" on The Learning Channel, I was struck by the dialogue between the individual being transformed and the cast of experts. While agreeing to follow the advice and input from these style-masters, "Joyce" was closed to the ideas presented of what she should wear, how her hair should be cut, and her make-up enhanced.
